6 Quick Ways to Help Twin Cities Dogs in Need This Howliday Season

We’re grateful for the floofy hooligans who make life happy. If you wanna pay it forward to the fur-legged community (in more than belly scratches for your number one), here are some quick ‘n easy ideas.

Give noms. Donate a bag of dog food (even an open one) to People & Pets Together, a pet food bank in Minneapolis for families in need, or set up a pet food drive of your own. PPT pet food donations are collected all over town. In 2018, the org distributed more than 100,000 pounds of pet food and 11 tons of cat litter. Pup yeah!

Clink ’em and drink ’em. Finally, a way to drink beer with your dog while helping other dogs. Sidewalk Dog’s Indoor Brewery Pass gets you one free pint beer at 17 Twin Cities-area taprooms that welcome pups inside. We’re pleased as peanut butter to be donating $1 from every pass purchased to Ruff Start Rescue.

Make Mission Animal Hospital your vet. Mission Animal Hospital in Eden Prairie is Minnesota’s first nonprofit, full-service veterinary clinic. It uses a two-tier pricing scale based on income. Those who pay the higher tier help other local pet parents afford top-quality vet care.

Sign a petition to protect dogs from hunting traps and snares. Hard fact: Minnesota dogs are accidentally killed by hunting snares and body-grip traps every year. Furtunately, Dog Lovers 4 Safe Trapping MN is on a mission to change how and where they’re placed to prevent dog deaths. Sign their petition to show your support.

Play Santa Paws. Your favorite rescue’s Amazon Wishlist is just a wag, drool, and Google search away. Rally up your people and get orderin’. Teamwork makes the dream work and together we think your office or class could clear Ruff Start Rescue’s list! Or Animal Humane Society’s. Or Secondhand Hounds’. Or Red Lake Rosie’s Rescue’s.

Treat yourself. You can also simply do your shopping on smile.amazon.com. Designate a shelter or rescue as your chosen nonprofit and AmazonSmile will donate 0.5% of your purchases to them.
