Inspired by our founder Ali Jarvis’ “lemon” dog, Luc, this series is dedicated to local, special-needs pups looking for loving homes. This adoptable pooch is scooped up and brought to you by Dog Days in St. Paul and Metro Dogs in the North Loop. See why they’re so grrreat at the end of this story.
Name: Lucy
Stats: 6-year-old, 83-pound, female Bloodhound
Location: Twin Cities, MN

Ruff Start Rescue: This smart, confident, majestic girl is so funny–even on the rare occasions she gets into mischief, we can’t help but laugh. She’s great with all people and loves goodnight kisses and hugs. She’s also a wonderful foster sister to the other dogs in our home and helps new foster dogs come out of their shells. She can throw a paw up to shake, and uses her big, sad hound eyes to score extra treats.
SWD: She sounds like the total package! What are her special needs?
RSR: Lucy has been looking for a home for nearly 3 years. She needs a home without cats and with a fence 5 feet or taller since she’s a true hound with a sniffer to match. She has urinary incontinence but it’s fully controlled with medication (she has no accidents). She’s leash reactive to dogs out and about, so she’s not a pup you’d take to the dog park or a dog-friendly patio. She likes other pups, especially little ones, but needs slow introductions to new dogs.
SWD: She just needs someone who’ll love all her quirks.
RSR: Exactly! She has so many hilarious ones, too. Just yesterday, she went to jump down from the window too fast and did a total wipe out. She’s learned that if she takes something she is not supposed to have, we’ll give her a treat to trade out the item. For example, she’ll steal mail from the counter and then run up to the treat cabinet and wait for me to come and trade the mail for a treat.
