7 Ways to Give Back to Colorado Dogs This 2019 Howliday Season

The howliday season is a time to give pause paws and reflect on everything we’re grateful for. Dogs, with their sweet snuggles and unwavering companionship, are at the top of the list. Return the favor to your gift that keeps on giving by partaking in these activities that benefit our local furry friends.

Donate money. It’s no secret that a little dough can go a long way, especially on Colorado Gives Day, the annual movement to celebrate and encourage philanthropy throughout the state. Taking place this Tuesday, December 10, many animal shelters and organizations are participating, including the Dumb Friends League, Life Is Better Rescue, Canine Partners of the Rockies, and more.

Donate food. Lend a helping paw by donating a bag of dog food to Colorado Pet Pantry, a pet food bank for families in need. Check out the nonprofit’s website to find the nearest donation drop-off location, or set up a food drive of your own. Thanks to CPP, more than 2.3 million meals were provided to nearly 39,000 pets in 2018.

Click ’em and drink ’em. Wondering if it’s pawsible to drink beer while giving back to the four-legged community? Well, get ready for your dreams to come true. With Sidewalk Dog’s Indoor Brewery Pass, you get BOGO beer at 13 Denver-area taprooms that welcome pups inside. Plus, we are pleased as peanut butter to be donating $1 from every pass purchased to Foothills Animal Shelter. Cheers, frens!

Celebrate the season. WestFax Brewing Co., one of the taprooms featured on the Indoor Brewery Pass, will be hosting an “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Paws” Yappy Hour on December 14. In addition to an ugly sweater contest and pictures with Santa Paws, Pints for Pets glasses will be for sale, with proceeds benefiting the Dumb Friends League. Feliz Navi-dog to that!

Pawticipate in a gift exchange. It’s a White Dog—er, Elephant—gift exchange! At the Dog Toy Exchange Party on December 14, a $10 donation to MidAmerica Boston Terrier Rescue nets you entrance to this Chuck & Don’s (Aurora) party, featuring an ugly sweater contest, a holiday selfie station, a cider and cookie bar, and, of course, a toy for your pup.

Get your Christmas shopping done. There are two kinds of people: Those who have all their present-shopping done by Black Friday . . . and those who enjoy the thrill of conquering the malls on Christmas Eve. The Holly Jolly Last-Minute Market caters to the latter when, on December 20, artisans like Colored Red Leather Goods, Light Provisions candles, and Two Ravens Soap Company gather at Coal Mine Ave Brewing to peddle their handmade gifts. For a $2 donation that benefits the Foothills Animal Shelter, you can have your purchases wrapped while you kick back with a cold one.

Take in a basketball game. Swap the howliday hustle and bustle for some howlin’ sports fans when the Denver Nuggets take on the Minnesota Timberwolves at Pepsi Center on December 20. The discounted ticket purchases benefit Demi’s Animal Rescue.
