Sunday Quotes: Distance

We’ve all come to understand the importance of physical distancing to help curb the spread of COVID-19, but it occurred to me earlier this week that perhaps another form of distancing is equally important. Negativity distancing is not a term, but maybe it should be.

I don’t know about you, but I feel like I’m mentally exhausted almost every day. Some days, it’s hard to stay positive, but let’s face it, one of the few things we can control right now is our mindset. Would you rather be stuck in negativity all day long, or would you rather try to find the good? And even though it sometimes doesn’t seem that way, there’s so much good in the world even now. You may just have to look a little harder some days.

For me, negativity distancing means limiting my news intake, limiting my time on social media, and cutting myself off when I start to think too much about current events.

One way to help me find the good is my gratitude journal: every night before I go to bed, I list at least three things I’m grateful for. And even in these dark times, it’s surprisingly easy to come up with far more than three most days.

Will you join me in negativity distancing? Let’s make it a thing!
