Black Cat Appreciation Day

Today is Black Cat Appreciation Day…though I’m appreciated every day. Isn’t that right, mom?

Yes, Ernie, that’s right…I appreciate you every single day.

Tell me again the story about how I was adopted…

Well, Ernie…when I was looking to adopt another cat, I learned that black cats had a hard time finding homes because of the stigma attached to their coloring. Some people thought black cats were evil or unlucky. I knew that wasn’t true. So right then and there, I decided I had to adopt a cat that was black. And I found you! And when I discovered you also had extra toes, that sealed the deal.

I love that story, mom. But it’s sad that some humans have the wrong impression about us black cats. We’re NOT scary or evil!

I think people are getting better about it, Ernie. With events like Black Cat Appreciation Day, people are learning that black cats are no different than any other cat. In fact, black cats have great personalities. I mean, look at you! You’re quite the character. Maybe one day we won’t need a special day for black cats.

Oh no…we should ALWAYS have a Black Cat Day. Me and my fellow black cats deserve one. Now keep appreciating me and give me more belly rubs.
