Inspired by our founder Ali Jarvis’ “lemon” dog, Luc, this series is dedicated to local, special-needs pups looking for loving homes. This adoptable pooch is scooped up and brought to you by Dog Days in St. Paul and Metro Dogs in the North Loop. See why they’re so grrreat at the end of this story.
Name: Harry
Stats: 2-year-old, 65-pound, male Golden Retriever mix
Location: Twin Cities
Rescue: Emotional Rescue
Sidewalk Dog: What a smile! Tell us about Harry.
Emotional Rescue: I love that nothing stops this dog. He may have wheels but he drives them like he stole them. His favorite activity is running off trail through the woods!
SWD: A true explorer. What are Harry’s special needs?
ER: Before he got to us, Harry was abused to the point of paralysis–his back was broken. We worked with a specialist at the U of M and he was fitted with a doggy wheelchair, which has changed his life. He’ll need his wheels and he’ll never have control of his bladder, so he’ll need a daily bath.
SWD: So no stairs and daily baths. Got it. What else would make the perfect forever home for Harry?
ER: Harry loves other dogs and people, and in his foster home he loves to chase the horses! So an active family would be great for him. He also needs a mix of time in his wheelchair and quiet time out of his chair each day. He’s a truly joyful pup.
