Review: Honest Pet Products

True to our Pets, True to Our Planet, True to our People. That’s the motto of Honest Pet Products, and it drives everything they do. Born out of founder and president Mary Wolff’s desire to use her creativity and compassion for all living things to do something that truly mattered, the company follows these three basic, unrelenting, and uncompromising principles in everything they do.
I love promoting companies with these kinds of ethical principles, and was delighted when Mary asked whether we’d like to review their cat products.
True to Our Pets
All of their toys and accessories are made from the most natural, safe, and durable materials possible. They are truly eco-friendly, not simply repackaged recycled plastics and synthetics labeled eco-friendly, a shortcut many companies take because eco-friendly has become such a buzzword.
True to Our Planet
The materials used to make their products are in their most natural form to promote sustainability and carbon footprint reduction.
True to Our People
Many of their products are made by people with cognitive and developmental disabilities in Green Bay, WI and Newfoundland, Canada. Their 100% natural wool cat toys are handmade in Mongolia by women of impoverished, nomadic herding families living without many basic needs. Through the Snow Leopard Trust’s Fair Trade Cooperative, these families earn a living with their traditional wool-working skills. In exchange, herders are protecting the endangered snow leopards that share their habitats.
And on top of all of this, the toys simply look adorable – what’s not to love about a company like this!
Putting Honest Pet Products to the test
We received the full range of cat products. When I opened the box, Allegra thought it was Christmas in January!
These toys are incredibly well made. Allegra was first drawn to the Hemp toys, in particular, the Eco Cat Fisher. The catnip in the fish must be some good stuff, because she barely let me unwind the string before rubbing her face all over it. I like the bamboo pole, which looks kind of cool and has a very nice hand feel to it.
The two Eco Pouncer mice were also a big hit, especially the mini version.
She wasn’t entirely sure what to make of the Eco Caterpillar, but it sure makes me smile every time I look at it – and it has moved “on its own,” so I know she’s played with it when I wasn’t looking.
They also sent us their two-sided grooming brush. Featuring a 100% sustainable bamboo handle with soft natural boar bristles on one side and detangling and massaging pins on the other side, it comes with a bonus bottle of organic shampoo. Allegra loved both sides of the brush for grooming, but wants nothing to do with even the idea of a bath… That said, if your cat truly needs a bath, I’d consider this shampoo an excellent choice.
