Playball Launcher Review – Is it as good as iFetch?
Is playing fetch one of your pup’s favorite games? If the answer is affirmative, but you’re a busy person who doesn’t have a lot of time to play with his dog, you should definitely invest in a quality dog ball thrower. These things are getting better and better with each year – they are sophisticated pieces of technology and a perfect solution for the needs of active pets.
Today, we’ll be taking a closer look at the Playball, made by Couch Potato, which is a company well-known for their quality pet-related products. Let’s see what it can offer!
What is the Playball?
The manufacturer advertises the Playball as the perfect toy for your medium-sized canine companion, as it can launch the ball to three different distances and can provide the pup with a lot of fun. When used outdoors, the machine is powered by six “C” batteries, while the indoor use requires just a wall plug. This makes this product a pretty convenient pet accessory and one that’s very easy to use.
Many shops have already sold thousands of units, and we’ve noticed plenty of positive user reviews on the web. That’s precisely why we decided to get a model of our own and see what’s so great about this product. Read on, and find out everything about its features!
The Main Features
Like we already said, this toy comes with a pet-friendly design and allows the pet owner to change the distance to which the balls will be launched. This, in turn, provides hours of fun for the pup. It has been designed in a way that lets Fido easily find the top-hole (“receiver”) and drop the ball into it. After a few seconds, the ball will be relaunched.
The machine has been designed with small dogs in mind, which is precisely why it uses little balls, with the diameter of just 1.5 inches. Small pups will grasp these balls easily – the large breeds, on the other hand, would risk choking on them
What Comes in the Box?
The packaging is pretty standard for these types of devices – it’s a big, colorful box with all the necessary information written on the sides of it. The manufacturer knows what the pet and his owner will need for the ultimate fun, and has included the following objects:
- Playball Machine
- Three smooth, saliva-resistant balls
- Power Adapter (110 or 240 volts)
- User Manual
Unfortunately, the previously mentioned batteries are not included in the package, and you’ll have to purchase them yourself. They are rechargeable, at least, so you won’t have to buy them so often.
The lack of an instructional DVD is another thing we didn’t like here, although we can’t take that as a serious flaw. After all, this is still a pretty straightforward device, and we don’t think that anyone will struggle with figuring out how it works.
How Fido Liked It
If there’s one good thing about this product, it is the ease of use it comes with. Our dogs had no problems with figuring out how this thing works, and they didn’t need our help at all.
One essential thing here is to avoid using a machine with large breeds of dogs. If your friend comes to visit together with his large pup, don’t forget to store the device away. Your small and his big dog might want to play together, and the friend’s pup could easily choke on the little balls.
During our testing period, we found that both the indoor and the outdoor use were excellent with this device. It’s especially great to use it outside – the rechargeable batteries allow for hours of fun, and the machine can launch the ball far away. This is exactly what your pet needs, and it will be pretty hard for him to stop having fun with fetching the ball.
Fido won’t have problems with using the Playball – the top opening is enormous, and placing the ball into it is a piece of cake. That’s always a big plus in our book!
Pros and Cons:
What We Like
- Straightforward but sleek design, allowing easy use for both the owner and his four-legged companion
- Can be used indoors and outdoors, thanks to the wall adapter and the rechargeable batteries
- Three different distance settings, with the highest one launching the ball far away
- The included balls are smooth to touch, saliva resistant, and can’t get stuck in the machine
- The included user manual is very informative and clean
- Reasonable price – one of the most affordable products of this type
What We Didn’t Like
- It cannot be used with large breeds of dogs, because of the choking hazard
- The rechargeable batteries are not included – the user has to buy them himself
The Final Verdict
All in all, we think that this is an excellent product for the active pets. Not only can it be used both inside and outside of the house, but can also launch the ball far away and provide your canine companion with lots of fun. It is not perfect, but, as far as we’re concerned, it’s one of the best choices in this price category. We recommend it!
