Dental disease is the most frequently diagnosed health problem in cats. 70 to 90 percent of cats have some level of dental disease. If left untreated, it can lead to health problems for your cat, ranging from bad breath, dental pain and loose teeth to systemic illnesses that can be life-threatening. The most effective way to prevent dental disease: brushing.

Ideally, you get your cat used to this when she’s still a kitten, but even older cats can learn to accept having their teeth brushed.

And before you say “I can’t brush my cat’s teeth,” consider that a regular effective home care program will reduce the need for professional cleanings under anesthesia, which is not only better for your cats, but also for your budget.

If you’ve never tried bushing your cat’s teeth, take a look at this 4-week training program from the Cornell Feline Health Center. With patience and dedication, even the most stubborn cats will usually accept having their teeth brushed.

There are several different feline toothbrushes on the market. The newest entry is Cateeth, a silicone brush with soft bristles that cover the entire surface of the brush head.

Cateeth brush features

  • Patent pending professional design ensures quick and complete teeth cleaning
  • 360 degree coverage of soft bristles over the entire surface of the brush head, including the tip
  • Made from FDA food grade non-toxic, BPA free silicone
  • Sturdy handle with solid stainless steel interior

My take on the Cateeth brush

One of the challenges with brushing cats’ teeth is that you’re working in a  very small space, with limited time. Even after you’ve gotten your cat used to having her teeth brush, you usually only have so much time before your cat will start fussing. This brush will allow you to brush more teeth in a shorter period of time because of it’s 360° design.

The brush feels softer to me than other cat toothbrushes, and it’s even softer than the pediatric toothbrush I’ve been using for Allegra. Ruby has no teeth left.

Putting the Cateeth brush to the test

Allegra took to the brush right away. She let me brush for quite a bit longer than she usually does with the pediatric brush. I found the Cateeth brush so much easier to navigate, and between the extended time I was able to brush, and the more efficient design, I’m hoping that we’ll continue to be able to keep Allegra’s teeth as healthy as possible.

I think this brush is simply brilliant. In fact, I love it so much that I’m awarding it our coveted Seal of Approval.
