The world’s favorite sourpuss, Grumpy Cat, was known for her frown and crabby facial expression — which, ironically, brought countless smiles to millions of people since she made her internet debut in 2012 and became a viral meme.

We at Catster were very sad to hear about the untimely passing of the feline celebrity on May 14. The Arizona cat — whose real-life name was Tardar Sauce — died from complications of a urinary tract infection at age 7. Her heartbroken owner, Tabatha Bundesen (below), shared in an internet announcement that her beloved cat — who had that iconic scowl due to feline dwarfism and an underbite — died in her arms at home.

Tabatha — who quit her waitressing job soon after her kitty became famous, due to all the trademarked Grumpy Cat merchandise — also wrote: “Her spirit will continue to live on through her fans everywhere.” Yes indeed.

The legendary cat behind the meme may be gone, but Grumpy Cat will continue to entertain people forever. We can make endless memes, attributing pithy quotes and a snarky attitude to her face. We can watch the 2014 TV movie Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever again and again. We can drink out of our Grumpy Cat coffee mugs.

As for me, I will smile every time I look at the plush Grumpy Cat attached to my living-room window with suction cups — and imagine what she’d have to say about idiots. Grumpy Cat forever!
