I found Bailey when some of his videos went viral last year. The first one that turned up in my social media profiles was Bailey with his human “sister,” Abby, a 4-year-old girl who was singing You Are My Sunshine to her orange feline companion. The next video was Abby reading a book to an attentive Bailey, who snuggled up close and hung on her every word. Bailey and Abby’s videos have been shared by Ellen, Good Morning America, ABC News, CBS News and countless others that have fallen in love with the ginger cat. The exposure turned Bailey into a bona fide media sensation.
His Facebook and Instagram pages feature daily pictures and videos of him with Abby and younger sister Hannah (newborn Claire recently joined the family, too). Followers on Bailey’s social media accounts are delighted as they watch Abby and Hannah dress him up, feed him in a highchair, give him bubble baths and take him for rides in their little pink car.
Bailey’s human mother, Erin Merryn, has released a book, Bailey, No Ordinary Cat, to celebrate his Zen-like patience, zest for life and love of attention. It features adorable pictures of Bailey in his various ensembles and cuddling with his little humans.
Although Bailey himself didn’t quite live to see his book (he passed away at the ripe old age of 14 from kidney failure around Christmas 2018), it’s a tribute to the bond we share with beloved fur babies everywhere. Bailey’s book is now available on Amazon. You can follow him at Facebook.com/noordinarycat and on Instagram: bailey_no_ordinary_cat.
