Review: Tomlyn® Cat Supplements

Tomlyn-pet-supplements-review

When it comes to supplements, it can be difficult to determine what’s good and what’s not. That’s why I’m delighted to introduce you to Tomlyn® today. This company creates supplements based on their belief that if you maintain a strong, clear focus on doing what is medically right for pets and combine it with on-staff veterinary oversight, the formulas created will be comparable to those sold in veterinary clinics.

About Tomlyn®

Tomlyn was created by a veterinarian, Tom, and his wife Lyn. They decided to create a line of nutritional supplements, dermatological treatments and shampoos for cats, dogs and horses that would outperform everything else available.

Several years ago, the remarkable rise of Tomlyn® caught the attention of the 10th largest veterinary pharmaceutical company for animal health in the world. Vétoquinol, based in Europe and operating in more than 100 countries worldwide, acquired Tomlyn® and established them as a world-class and credible developer of veterinarian-approved formulas for pet healthcare products.

We reviewed four of their products: Relax and Calm Chews, Pre & Probiotic, Multi-Vitamin Chews, and Pill Masker.

relax-and-calm-chews

Relax and Calm Chews

Relax & Calm is a chicken flavored chew designed to help cats (and dogs) cope with stressful situations. The product contains the two active ingredients L-tryptophan and chamomile, which help promote a sense of calm and relaxation. The third active ingredient, ginger, helps settle the uneasy stomachs that often accompany stress and anxiety.

Putting Relax and Calm to the test

These hard chews are pretty large, and the size made me nervous, so I cut them in half. Both of the girls were immediately interested, and Allegra made short work of the smaller chunk. Ruby has no teeth left and while she can usually gum hard treats, she had a more difficult time with these, but since she was so interested, I crumbled hers up for her, and she ate it all.

The fact that they ate these chews so readily will definitely make me reach for this product as a calming aid when needed.

cat-pre-probiotic

Pre & Probiotic

I consider a good probiotic one of the most important supplement for cats. A healthy gut is critical for a strong immune system, healthy body weight and composition, and even mental health. It also minimizes the risk for numerous diseases, including diabetes and cancer. Tomlyn’s Pre & Probiotic formula is made up of an advanced formula with one of the highest colony-forming units (CFUs) of probiotics available on the market today.

Putting Pre & Probiotic to the test

No matter how good a probiotic is, it won’t do you any good if your cats won’t eat it. I mixed this product in with Allegra and Ruby’s regular meals (I split the packet between two meals) and they never seemed to notice anything was different.

cat-multivitamin

Multi-Vitamin Chews

Even if you feed a “complete and balanced” diet to your cats, I believe that a good daily multi-vitamin adds extra insurance. Tomlyn’s multivitamins are soft bacon-flavored chews rich in vitamins, minerals, omega-3-fatty acids as well as several ingredients that support digestive health.

Putting Multi-Vitamin Chews to the test

Both Allegra and Ruby liked the chews. I like the idea that they think they’re getting a treat when they’re really getting a multivitamin.

pill-masker-for-cats

Pill Masker

For cats who are difficult to pill, Pill Masker could be a lifesaver. This bacon-flavored moist, juicy paste can be wrapped around pills or capsules of any size. Best of all, it carries the Jackson Galaxy stamp of approval, and Jackson doesn’t put his name on anything unless it really works.

Putting Pill Masker to the test

Allegra and Ruby both licked the paste off my finger. Neither one of them is on any medication, but if they ever need it, this will be a great product to have.
