Survey Finds Humans Are More Affectionate With Dogs Than With Other Humans

It’s National Love Your Pet Day, and as a dog pawrent, you do. A lot. Pawsibly even more than you love the humans in your life.

Now, there’s scientific evidence. A new survey of 1,450 American dog owners who are also in a relationship has concluded that humans are more affectionate with their dogs than with their significant others. Among the warm, fuzzy (hairy, slobbery) findings:

  • 81% of dog parents use a baby voice or puppy voice when they talk to their doggos.
  • 67% of devoted dog people gaze lovingly into their dogs eyes, and one-third of them say they gaze more often in to their dog’s eyes than into their partner’s.
  • 47% cuddle their dog more often than their partner.
  • 53% would consider ending a relationship if their partner didn’t like dogs or was severely allergic.
  • One-third of dog parents say they plan their weekend around their dog and dog-friendly events and activities. (Pup yeah we do!)
  • And 24% admit they snap more photos with their dog than with their partner, family members, or friends. (We gotta keep Fido’s Instagram poppin’.)

Dog lovers also attract other dog lovers: 69% of ’em said knowing someone is a dog lover would make them more interested in dating them. A third of them regularly bring their pooches on dates. And 24% of millennial dog owners even admitted they’d continue a relationship or friendship because they liked the other person’s pup.

Heck, the woofers ruv us, too. Now if only they’d schlep their own poop bags.
