Special Dog Seeks Special Home: Skye the Catahoula Leopard Dog

Look at those baby blues.

Rescue: Twin Cities Pet Rescue

Sidewalk Dog: Look at that blue-eyed beauty! Tell us about Skye.

Twin Cities Pet Rescue: Skye is the ultimate snuggler! She’s the perfect companion for someone who wants a lap-dog personality in a medium-sized package. She’s cute, sweet, and adores people. Skye enjoys taking naps in the sun or on a bean bag chair that she’s claimed as her own. She loves stuffed toys and going for walks. She’s loves car rides and attention. Whether it’s scratches, petting, or play, you name it, she’s game for it! She’s also quite the charmer. When she’s in a room full of people, she assumes the perfect petting position: on her back with maximum belly exposure.

SWD: What an awesome doggo! What is her special need?

TCPR: Skye is deaf and you’d hardly know, it, but she has some separation anxiety as a result. She really looks to people for companionship, and to help bridge the gap in communication. Instead of verbal cues, we use hand signals for different cues for things like “sit,” “down,” and “come.” Skye is on medication to help with her anxiety and it’s helped her a ton.

SWD: Sounds like Skye loves the hoomans. How does she do with kids and other dogs?

TCPR: Skye adores kids and lives with two small children and other dogs in her foster home. She’d do fine with a laid-back dog companion. Her dog sibling would just need to be patient with her, especially since she can’t hear them growl if they’re not in the mood to play. She’s also be down for being an only dog, because the more open laps, the better! When I was sitting on the stairs, Skye wanted to crawl in my lap. She was unsuccessful in climbing in the traditional way but was determined to get some snuggles in, so she climbed a few steps above me and placed her paws on my shoulder and gave me some big kisses on my cheek! I couldn’t help but laugh.

SWD: Oh fur cute! So what else would make the perfect forever home for Skye?

TCPR: Her ideal home would have a fence since she prefers off-leash potty breaks. She’s also very athletic! We haven’t tried agility equipment yet, but she’d likely enjoy it if her forever fam wanted to give it a whirl.

This dog’s story was made possible by some of the pup-loving-est daycares in the Twin Cities: Dog Days in St. Paul and Metro Dogs in the North Loop. As one happy customer recently put it, “We took our beloved Walter the Greyhound to Dog Days for six years. He was an anxious dog who felt happiest when he was there. When we get a new dog, he will be a Dog Days dog.” For pup’s sake, give ’em a call today!
