Colorado’s Dog-Friendly Apple Orchards and Pumpkin Patches

Halloween candy and pumpkin spice lattes are great and all, but for us dog pawrents, there are few things that bring as much autumnal joy as seeing our pups do a victory lap around apple orchards and pumpkin patches. This year especially, we ruv outdoor activities that allow for social distancing. So throw on your best matching flannels (we know you have them) and puppare to get giddy at these Colorado dog-friendly apple orchards and pumpkin patches.

Happy Apple Farm, Penrose
9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Thursday–Sunday, open now
Happy Apple Farm is two hours south of Denver, but the drive’ll be worth it once you see your dog going mutts as he snoofs out blackberries, raspberries, AND pears at one of the most diversified pick-your-own fruit farms in the state. Once you gather up enough produce to fill KONGs through Christmas, nosh on some smoked brisket and apple cider donuts—and don’t furget to grab a pie or cobbler for the ride home. Apples are picked clean for the season due to an April frost, but pumpkins are ripe and ready!
Adam’s Apple Orchard & Country Store, Ault
10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, open now
Mike and Will recently relocated from Minnesota (a.k.a. the home of the best apple variety ever produced: Honeycrisp) to take over U-Pick operations for Masonville Orchards. As you’re strolling the onsite Country Store for fresh jams, salsas, and ciders, your dog will be dreaming of doin’ an eats on all 150 fur-ieties of apples, pears, plums, and pumpkins.
Cottonwood Farms, Lafayette
2020 opening date tentatively set for Sept. 26
If frolicking through a field of pumpkins doesn’t tickle puppo’s fancy, meeting resident dog Cole certainly will. Cottonwood Farms is still finalizing 2020 plans to open safely, so keep an eye on their website for details.
Maize in the City, Thornton

At Maize in the City, there are more activities than you can shake a bully stick at: a 20-acre corn maze, a petting zoo, pony rides, a pumpkin field, and a CORN LAUNCHER that will forever up your pup’s fetch-pectations. With COVID, we aren’t sure what activities will remain open this year. Fetch details as they come on their website and social media.
Pope Farms Corn MAiZE & Pumpkin Patch, Wiggins
10 a.m. – 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Sunday; Oct. 2–31
When the schedule includes a 10-acre corn maze, a pumpkin pulverizer, potato cannons, and duck races (just to name a few of the activities), you know it’s gonna be a pawesome time—especially when Pope Farms proudly declares that it “welcomes all children, even if yours has four legs.” Yep, we found our people.
