Sure, you and your best fren love pumpkin spice, leaf peeping, Oktoberfest, and Halloween, but that doesn’t mean you’re basic b*tches. You just know how to have a ghoulish good time. So, turn on some Halloween tunes, dress your dog in a cute costume, and get ready for a spook-tacular night on the town on some of our favorite Denver ghost tours *scare-anteed* to terrify everypawdy.
Note: Pups are allowed on the walking tours, but not inside the mansions or haunted houses. Please wear a mask, book your reservations in advance online, and remember to keep your distance from others on the tour. Dog-Friendly Denver Ghost Tours
Known as one of the sunniest cities in the country, Denver possesses a bark side, too. Led by a local ghost enthusiast, this two-hour walking tour of Denver’s Capitol Hill neighborhood provides a peep into the city’s seedy past where legends and lore abound. Tour landmarks include the most haunted house in all of Colorado, another haunted mansion recently featured on the Travel Channel’s “Portal to Hell” show, an eerie school and cathedral, and even former burial grounds. Keep your eyes peeled for ghosts and poltergeists! Even the most skeptical of doggos will enjoy this stroll through the historic neighborhood. (The deets: $25 per person, suitable for those ages 10 and up, tours held Thursdays at 7 p.m., Friday and Saturdays at 8 p.m., Sundays at 6:30 p.m.)
For the tuff-est dogs, we sniffed out this hour-long walking tour of Denver’s Capitol Hill neighborhood that locals say is the scariest in town. Strut your stuff through a dozen of the neighborhood’s most historical and haunted spots while your tour guide tells you about the spirits swirling around you and things go woof in the night. We hear hoomans might get spooked hearing stories about the Capitol building, the millionaire row houses, and the Molly Brown Mansion–she was one of the oldest ladies who survived the Titanic then met a tragic end! (The deets: $19 per person, suitable for ages 10 and up, tours held nightly at 8 p.m.)
Self-guided Denver Haunts to Visit
Called the “Most Haunted Road in Colorado,” Riverdale Road connects Thornton and Brighton through a winding 11 miles. Legend has it that this is a hotspot for paranormal happenings. We know you ain’t afraid of no ghosts, but be on the lookout fur phantoms like joggers, ladies in white, and even a red Camaro. Along the way, you’ll pass the Gates of Hell House, which was home-base for the Wolpert family’s dark history. Your dog double-dares you to take the drive at night, so don’t be a scaredy cat.
For the energetic pup who doesn’t wanna be bored listening to all the yapping but still wants some spookiness, head over to Cheeseman Park. Situated in central Denver, this park has a storied, supernatural history. By day, the park looks like a grassy oasis that pups will go mutts for. But by night, something more sinister looms (ooOOOooh). Local urban legends report ghost sightings and poltergeists as the park is built atop an old cemetery (sound familiar?). It’s practically the plot of the 1980s classic “Poltergeist!” After visiting the park, your dog would wuv it if you snuggle up and watch the movie together. And share your popcorn. Lots of popcorn.
