A Good Samaritan from Montreal, Canada spotted a stray cat entering an outdoor shelter made out of a large container, on the side of the road.

As she approached the cat, the tabby quickly ran off. She looked inside the shelter and found a litter of newborn kittens huddled up in a pile.

Wanting to help the feline family, she reached out to a local animal rescuer, Stefany, and asked if she could take them in.

Stefany immediately drove an hour to the location and brought supplies to help with the rescue. Knowing the cat mom was afraid of people, she set a humane trap near the shelter and waited four hours until she heard the door shut.

Once the cat mom was secured, she placed the five kittens in a carrier and took them all home.

After 24 hours, the cat mama finally began to relax as she realized she was safe and would never go hungry for another day.

When she heard her kittens' cries, she rushed back to them in their nest and started feeding and cleaning them.

But it would take another three weeks until the cat mom began to trust people.

Stefany named her Lexy and gave her all the time and space she needed to feel comfortable. When the tabby finally decided to let her guard down, her demeanor quickly changed.

She became calm and even started to seek affection. For the very first time, she switched on her purr motor in front of Stefany and was eager for pets and love.
