Blossom Brody vas Ratsbane – Ragdoll of the Week

Blossom Brody vas Ratsbane - Ragdoll of the Week

In 2012, we got our first Ragdoll – a Seal Point Mitted of show quality from Ms. Dana Pendergraph of Blossom Ragdolls. Brody, as are all of our other pets, is named after our favorite video game characters. Brody hearkens to Jason Brody, the main character of Far Cry 3, while vas Ratsbane is a shout out to Vaan from the Final Fantasy XII game. To preface this story, you must know my husband and I met playing Final Fantasy XI online 13 years ago. So games are an important part of our relationship and marriage.

After doing extensive research into the breed, I decided Ragdolls were the perfect breed for our family. They are large, floppy, beautiful and friendly by nature. When that was decided, I found one of the best Ragdoll breeders in the US and was pleasantly surprised to find Blossom Ragdolls located within a reasonable distance from our home. We have since gotten 3 Ragdolls from Blossom, and 1 additional Ragdoll from someone she mentored. So all of our dolls are related in some way, though I’m not sure they realize it!

After submitting the application and placing a reservation deposit, my husband and I were thrilled to be notified that a kitten was available in a few weeks due to an unexpected personal event from the person who initially claimed him. A couple weeks later, we met Dana, toured her impeccably clean cat castle and met Brody’s parents a couple weeks before he was due to come home with us.

We were instantly in love. We both cried with happiness at the precious bundle of joy flopping lazily in our hands. It was torture to leave him, but comforting to know he would be ours forever in a couple of weeks.

Once we brought Brody home, we introduced him to our other 4 cats. All were rescues, and not so sure about having a brand new baby in the house. Brody showed no fear. We were able to let them all roam freely within a week without worry.

Brody was playful, cuddly and completely trusting of us. He had the typical Ragdoll growth spurt and fought for top position in the pecking order. He topped out at about 16 pounds, which was unfortunately about 2 pounds lighter than our biggest DSH male. When we got our latest kitten, Parker, Brody took full advantage of his size when the kitten would annoy him. Literally, Brody would sit on Parker and make him disappear under all the fluff. Parker would slow his roll pretty quick after that.

It was clear that Brody, now loving called “Brodes” or “Mr. Brodes”, had an affinity for my husband more than me. If there is one thing I can say about Brody, he cares deeply for the safety and comfort of my husband. Every single morning, Brody watches as my husband is in the shower to ensure that he is ok. If there are any strange sounds or movements, Brody gets very upset and meows and will literally get in the shower with him to ensure he’s ok.

Brody cares about his momma too, but there is a definite stronger connection to my husband. I remember a couple times where Brody realized I was having a bad dream and woke me up by kneading my neck. He always knows when we are not feeling well and ensures he’s cuddled up close to us. I’m sure most cat owners are familiar with the “cat trap” in bed – that time where you cannot move your legs or arms because you are surrounded by a wall of cats. Brody takes center stage in that exhibition.

Brody is a troublemaker and too smart for his own good sometimes. He loves opening cabinets. We have since had to “baby-proof” the house to keep the bad cabinets from invasion. He also knows EXACTLY how to get you to feed him a snack. He will meow and walk a couple steps, then look back for you to follow. If you start to follow, he will walk a few steps and meow and look back to make sure you are still at attention, then lead you straight to the pantry where we keep their food.

In essence, Brody is the reason I have said “I just want a house full of Ragdolls.” Now we have 4 dolls, they are all my babies, and I love each and every one of them! Here’s to Brodes.
