Louie – Ragdoll of the Week
Meet Louie “Choo-Choo” Blue.
Louie is a handsome blue mitted lynx point who was a rescue from a noisy home with lots of children, dogs and other cats. According to his previous owner this was no bueno for Louie. So he moved in with me in October 2017 when he was one year old. Now a little over two years old, he has settled into a quieter life as the only pet of a single owner, which he seems to prefer.
Unlike most Ragdolls, Louie doesn’t enjoy sitting on laps or being picked up. Other than that he is very friendly, following me around the house in the Ragdoll/puppy fashion. True to cat behavior his favorite things are napping and eating. I believe he would eat anything put under his nose, at any time… and would eat until he popped (I haven’t tested this hypothesis). Needless to say I have to monitor his food intake and food quality. He’s certainly not going to! If Louie is underfoot and cornbread crumbs fall to the floor by accident, it’s a wonderful day in his book.
In hopes of keeping him healthy and relatively trim I try to schedule play time daily. His favorite toy is a long piece of floral tape (that sort of stretchy green tape) tied to a back scratcher waved around in the air. No really. He also has two mouse toys that squeak, a stuffed squirrel and various soft catnip-stuffed toys. But the floral tape beats all these toys, Louie insists.
Louie enjoys watching birds and has his own chair positioned in front of the back door window in order to see them. If the birds aren’t around he will accept watching birds on YouTube for awhile, but of course it’s just not the same (he says). He also enjoys licking human’s hands and faces (sometimes this turns into his own kind of “loving” gnaw) and using his supersized scratching post. He loves having his belly rubbed… for a designated amount of time, designated by HIM.
Dislikes: nail clipping, lap sitting, the sound of the E string on my violin, not getting at least four meals a day, hot weather (according to his DNA profile, Louie’s closest wild ancestors are snow leopards, so why am I not surprised?)
I talk to him a lot so he understands many words (“birds” “foodz” “poopie butt” “mousie” “night-night time” and more).
He sheds a great deal, even with brushing three times a week. Not ideal for someone like me who hates running a vacuum. But no pet is perfect, right? I suppose it’s a trade-off, what with Louie being a member of The Clean Plate Club – not a picky eater at ALL. In other words you can’t have everything.
Louie is a handsome, smart boy. I hope he’s a happy cat and I hope lives a long, healthy life.
