Stray Kitten Climbs onto Cyclist's Shoulder and Insists on Being Adopted

A stray kitten, who was found under a car, climbed onto a cyclist's shoulder and wouldn't let her go.

Madison Kelly, a cyclist (@madison_m_kelly), was in South Chicago for a bike race four months ago when she came across a little wandering kitten without a home to go to.

"She was a lone kitten. Some bike racers found her all dirty under a car and carried her around looking for someone to take her," Madison told Love Meow.

Madison had just finished a race and was on her way to her van when she saw them holding the kitten. As a cat lover, who grew up with her feline best friend, Kitsy, she couldn't resist checking out the little stray.

As they handed the kitten over to Madison, the tiny feline immediately crawled up onto her shoulder and decided that was the place to stay.

The kitty clung onto Madison as if to claim her as her forever human. "I didn't win the race but won a stray kitten's companionship," Madison said.

They named her Puig. "It means podium in Latin and climb in Catalan," she added.

Puig was so excited to go home with her new family. She explored around the car a bit, but as soon as Madison got in the back seat, she hopped right onto her lap.

"As soon as we got into the van, she curled up in my lap, purring," Madison told Love Meow.

The kitten purred through the entire trip home to Grand Rapids, Michigan. (Scroll down for video)

After a big meal and a warm bath, Puig was clean, happy and loved.

"Since then, she is always wanting to be where I am and into what I'm doing," Madison said. "Her personality is very playful and inquisitive."

"She likes to snuggle but when she's not snuggling, she's causing all kinds of mischief and hilarity hunting sponges and socks and stashing them in strange places."

"She stashed a wet kitchen sponge under the covers by my feet while I slept," Madison said.

"My boyfriend and I typically wake up to a collection of socks laid out on the covers, gifts from Puig's night of hunting."

A few weeks later, they welcomed a new kitten into their family. Puig took to her and started cuddling.

"Puig needed a friend to play with after Kitsy recently passed away (at 19 years old, she was my best friend since I was six) so we rescued another kitten, Waffle, in her honor."

Madison went on a race back in July and came home with a shoulder kitty - a friend for life.

"Adopt a stray and they will love you forever," she said.
