That Time When Ruby Was a Cover Girl: Purrs of Wisdom: Conscious Living, Feline Style

It’s been six weeks since Ruby died, and I still can’t wrap my mind around the fact that my precious girl is gone. Of course, she will always live on in my heart and my memories of our time together, but as anyone who has lost a soul cat knows, it’s just not the same.

She also lives on in my work. Her column Ruby’s Reflections will always be available on this site. There are hundreds of “Ruby Tuesday” photos of her on Facebook and Instagram. I know she loved knowing that so many people enjoyed her stories, and her beauty.

A little over a year after she joined our family, she became the cover girl for my first Purrs of Wisdom book, Purrs of Wisdom: Conscious Living, Feline Style. The cover was designed by the incredibly talented artist and graphic designer Bernadette Kazmarski. The photo she used for the cover is still one of my all time favorite photos of Ruby.

Ruby was very proud of being a cover girl. And just so Allegra, who became the cover girl of Tortitude: The BIG Book of Cat With a BIG Attitude four years later, wouldn’t feel left out, she was featured on the back cover. Of course, you can imagine that Ruby teased Allegra to no end about being “only” on the back of the book.

If you’re a newer reader, both volumes of Purrs of Wisdom are collections of essays features lessons in conscious living, inspired by the cats who have shared my life. Even though the first volume was published eight years ago, it has stood the test of time.

From help with every day challenges to inspiration on living a joyful life, the compilations provide encouragement, guidance, and enlightenment, feline style. Whether it’s creating balance, navigating turbulent times, or finding the magic in life’s ordinary moments, there’s something for everyone in this book.

The stories may remind you of lessons your own cats have taught you, provide “aha” moments, or simply make you smile.
