Dog-Friendly Twin Cities Weekend: Doggie Depot, Pupper Bowl, Skijoring, and More

Oh my dog, have you seen the forecast? We’re not saying you should slip into a pair of shorts or anything (Don’t embarrass your furkid!), but you’ll wanna round up the pack for some of *the* most exciting dog-friendly events of the season.

Doggie Depot 2020 @ Union Depot (10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, February 1) If your pooch puts only one thing on his social agendog this winter, make it Doggie Depot – the bark of the St. Paul Winter Carnival. Everypawdy who’s anypawdy is going to be there to shop, do doga, meet rescue pups, boop noses, and witness the crowning of the Canine King Boreas and Canine Queen of Snows. Plus it’s free, and we’ll be there giving out hella belly rubs like loving dogs is our job or something.

Pupper Bowl @ Bauhaus Brew Labs (11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, February 1) Bring your Brewery Pass and competitive spirit for this one! Pups will be divided into weight classes and teams, then compete to score touchdowns with toys. $20 gets you two beers, and your pup a branded bandanna and entry into one round of the bowl. Just tell your little ball hog to watch out for pass interfurence and unnecessary ruffness.

Chuck & Don’s Skijor Events @ The City of Lakes Loppet Winter Festival (7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Friday, 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, January 31 through February 2) Having your best fren pull on the leash like no other is usually a drag, but it could actually help you guys dominate at skijoring – AKA cross-country skiing with your dog. This year your dream team can enter three skijoring events: sprints, a one-dog loppet, and a two-dog loppet. Take your lick! Skijoring not your pup’s peanut butter and jam? Bring a cowbell to cheer on the racers.

American Rug Laundry (8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays) You’d think a place that’s all about pet stain and odor *removal* wouldn’t welcome doggos, but this Lake Street gem wouldn’t have it any other way. Your pup will conveniently forget his wallet as usual, but at least you can shame him a little bit. (See how much it costs when you scoot across the rug, Bruce?)
