Lick or Treat: Homemade Dog Treats for Halloween

Trick-or-treating may be heckin’ canceled this year, but that just means more candy for you. We know you normally sneak pieces from the bowl all night anyway. But what makes those snackies even better is being able to celebrate all things spooky w/ your lil goblin. Check out these homemade dog treats for pup to enjoy while you nom fun size bars.

Homemade Dog Treat: Peanut Butter Cups

Who else used to start Shark Tank-level negotiations to trade everything in your haul for the drool-worthy Reese’s? I know you’re out there! Unfortunately chocolate is a howl no for our pups, but this peanut butter cups recipe from Chewy fixes that by swapping chocolate for carob. The 3-ingredient treat will make doggo’s Howloween. Being so cute in a costume and letting people at parties scratch your tum-tum is exhausting anyway.

Homemade Dog Treat: Candy Corn

Love it or hate it, pup next is candy corn. And this treat comes straight from our enrichment series. Here’s what you need:

  • Ice cube mold (or paper cups)
  • Pumpkin puree
  • Plain non-fat yogurt
  • Mashed bananas

Layer your three ingredients, then freeze. Pop in some sticks for pupsicles or just toss ‘em into your dog’s bowl for a mess-free, seasonal treat.

Homemade Dog Treat: Peanut Butter Molasses Cookies

No Halloween candy haul is complete without those weird black and orange wrapped taffy things, which apparently are Necco Mary Jane Peanut Butter Kisses. Made from peanut butter and molasses, this treat translates well to doggy snaccs. Note: Only use blackstrap molasses with no additives. While natural, this is still a sweetener, so doggy should eat in moderation (just like you doo with those sticky abominations when you run out of other candy). Check out the recipe from Dog Treat Kitchen

Once you prep your doggo’s candy-inspired  treats, the only thing left to doo is cuddle up and watch seasonal movies with your Halloweenie. Hocus Pocus, anyone?
