If you’re in the Los Angeles area, you may have caught a glimpse of a large, yellow van with what appear to be cat ears. You’re not seeing things — it’s the Catty Wagon!
Created in 2016 by the Michelson Found Animals Adopt & Shop organization, it’s the first custom-built, mobile adoption vehicle created just for kitties and makes it possible for thousands of shelter kittens to find forever homes. The Catty Wagon travels to adoption events, as well as farmers markets and other outdoor events, bringing adoptable kittens directly to the public.
This self-contained vehicle has everything on board to help keep staff, volunteers and the kittens comfortable, featuring indoor kitty condos and meet-and-greet rooms. These kittens definitely travel in style!
My sister has been an Adopt & Shop volunteer for the last two years and has taken several trips on the Catty Wagon. She says she loves working with the kittens and bringing them to the public. And one volunteer-turned-staff member specifically learned how to drive a big van so she could be a Catty Wagon driver.
The Catty Wagon sees as many as six to eight adoptions a day, and it increases awareness, helping even more kittens get adopted each year. Recently, the Catty Wagon has become available to rent for private events — a recent birthday party was a huge hit!
