Looking for a way to celebrate our feline friends in October? Here are some fun October 2019 cat events.
Wednesday, Oct. 9: Pet Obesity Awareness Day
Is your cat a little on the chubby side? You’re not alone – many pets in the United States are. What’s important is that we get our tubby tabbies back on the right track. Every year, this day reminds us to make a few changes for the good of our kitties. And The Association for Pet Obesity Prevention would love for you to take part in its 12thAnnual National Pet Obesity Awareness Day Survey. Find it at petobesityprevention.org.
Saturday, Oct. 12 – Sunday, Oct. 13: CFA’s International Cat Show
Looking for some feline fun? The Cat Fanciers’ Association’s International Cat Show has it all! Educational workshops, agility competitions, meet and greets with 45 pedigreed breeds, shopping, an adopt-athon, a cat costume contest, performances by the Savitsky Cats and much more! Held at the Cleveland IX Center, this show has something for everyone! Get more information at http://cfa.org/InternationalShow.aspx.

Tuesday, Oct. 29: National Cat Day
If you ask a cat, then every day is national cat day. Of course, the humans had to go and pick just one. Celebrate your cat and other cats around the world with lots of social media pics, treats, volunteering or cuddles.
Thursday, Oct. 31 – Sunday, Nov. 3: 5thWorld Veterinary Conference
Organized by the American Association of Feline Practitioners, this first-of-its-kind conference focuses on Complex Disease Management. Veterinary professionals from around the world will enjoy great speakers and topics at the Hilton San Francisco Union Square in California. Find out more at catvets.com.
Through December 31st: Solar Cat
If you’re interested in renewable energy and just happen to be a cat lover, check out Solar Cat: The Cutest Solar Panel Ever Made. Located in the Upper Level, Tech Gallery at New York Hall of Science, the exhibit centers around a giant, 140-watt cat-shaped solar panel mounted to the window. The energy harvested by the panel powers an adjacent interactive pedestal featuring fun facts and diagrams about how solar panels work. You can flip a switch to send Solar Cat’s harvested energy to power up a model house. You can also charge your cell phone using one of two built-in USB ports powered by Solar Cat. This fun exhibit educates visitors about solar technology and also demonstrates how creativity and design can push technology to be more accessible. For more information, go to nysci.org.
