Tatum – Ragdoll of the Week
I actually acquired Tatum & her half sister, Tareva who died just before her 4th birthday, from a local breeder. I fell in love with her beautiful features & since I met her mom, I could kind of see what she would be like grown. I had done a lot of research on different cats and really fell for the description of a Ragdoll. Tatum, means ‘bringer of joy’ and everyday I’m blessed by that joy. She was born April, 2010 she is a Blue Bicolor Lynx. Tatum isn’t what I would call, as the books say, Ragdoll personality. She’s timid and skittish, she is scared to death of loud noises and people, hates to be held – legs go stiff if I pick her up. She meows like you’re killing her, just for a nail trim at the vets – in fact she bite a vet tech once! People at the vet go poor kitty – then I tell them she only had her nails cut! You should see the look they give me! HA
Besides all that, I so enjoy her. She meows a lot, even at night after I go to bed! I feel she has to tell me something, so I’m never mad about it but when I’ve had enough all I have to do is at okay…good bye. She stops and walks away. As she’s gotten older, I’ve noticed she wants to be closer to me – I mean she’ll sit on my recliner arm or top of the recliner back and now at night, once I’m sound asleep, she’ll jump into bed with me – I find her next to me in the morning. We live in an apartment, so she only gets out when I put her in her stroller which she hates! She meows the whole way and I swears at times it sounds like “help”!! Needless to say, she doesn’t go out to much.
She loves sitting on the window ledge or her tree – I have a lot of birds, squirrels & chipmunks! She especially is intrigued by those fast moving chipmunks. Sometime I can catch her moving her mouth real fast – almost like a chirping/clicking because she gets so excited.
She’s very healthy – last visit she’s gained some weight (up to 11 lbs) so she’s on a diet. She was 8 lbs for years & the last year/year and half she’s gained. My vet isn’t worried although she said she’s a small little girl & I should keep her at 10 lbs or less.
After Tareva died -I thought of getting another but Tatum seemed relieved and could care less that Tareva was gone. Even though they did show some affection – most of the time Tareva was very mean to Tatum and I even found bites/blood on the back of Tatum’s neck!! So, since she seems okay being the only child and since I’m getting older by the day, I’ve decided it’s just her and me.
OH the hair! I tell people my house is covered in white hair no matter how much you clean. Last year for the first time, Tatum had big knots of hair so big I had to have the vet shave her but we decided to only shave the underneath big knots the rest we got out by a comb/brush. Only one spot on her (R) side where we had to cute quite a bit, has come back so dark – almost black! Interestingly though the rest is white and of course since we didn’t shave the top coat it’s the same. I’m keeping up on the combing more now and of course she hates it! But I give her hugs & kisses and every now & then I get a little ‘love lick’!
