Minnesota’s Dog-Friendly Pumpkin Patches
The dog-friendly pumpkin patch at Whistling Well Farm in Hastings lets visitors pick their own pumpkins and apples, and dig their own fall mums.
Because ‘winter is coming’ holds a far more ominous meaning here in Minnesota, we take full advantage of October’s bright blue skies and comparatively balmy breezes. Among the best adventures: venturing out to a pumpkin patch for a few jack-o-lantern and pie supplies. The fur-kids wanna come, too, because #somanysmells. Here are 10 dog-friendly pumpkin patches in Minnesota that welcome your whole pack.
CARLSON’S ORCHARD AND BAKERY, Winsted
10am – 5pm Tuesday through Saturday
Pick your own pumpkins and apples, take a self-guided tour, hop on tractor and hay rides, and enjoy live music, a straw mountain, and more. P.S. That “and Bakery” in the title means fresh apple and pumpkin pies served between 11am and 4pm.
COLLEGEVILLE ORCHARDS, St. Joseph
10am – 6pm daily
Pumpkins and mini pumpkins of all shapes and sizes are here for the picking. Also on hand: 20 varieties of apples to pick, farm animals to pet and feed, wagon rides, pumpkin painting, and shopping in the vintage country store.
DEARDORFF ORCHARDS & VINEYARD, Waconia
10am – 6pm Friday through Sunday (U-pick on Saturdays and Sundays)
After picking pumpkins (and apples) at Deardorff, mosey over to the winery for some award-winning Parley Lake wine, and then head down the road to pup-paradise Carver Park Reserve dog park.
FAIRHAVEN FARM, South Haven
10am – 6pm daily
The pumpkin patch is just the beginning here. More than 25 varieties of apples are also ready for the picking, and a corn maze and weekend hay rides (Saturdays and Sundays, 12 to 4pm) add to the fun. Also on paw: raspberries, pears, plums, grapes, and more.
FALL HARVEST ORCHARD, Montrose
10am – 6pm Thursday through Sunday
Pumpkins, apples, and plenty of activities – like a corn maze and wagon rides – await you at Fall Harvest Orchard. Free admission.
GILBY’S ORCHARD, Aitkin
9am – 5pm daily
Head “up north” to Gilby’s and your dog might see pheasants and deer as you two stroll the orchard trails. Pick your pumpkins, gourds, jams, and jellies, then let pupper ‘splore the corn maze.
LUCELINE ORCHARD, Watertown
10am – 6pm Wednesday through Sunday
At 155 acres, LuceLine is ultra-friendly for dogs who ruv to roam and romp. There are pumpkins and squash to pick, along with loads of apple-y fare.
PLEASANT VALLEY ORCHARD, Shafer
10am – 6pm daily
An amazing array of pumpkins await you here, along with a gift shop, pre-picked MN-grown apples, and once again, a bakery that turns out apple turnovers and the like on the daily. We’re not drooling, you’re drooling.
TOM’S PUMPKIN FARM, Lindstrom
10am – dusk Monday through Friday; 10am – 10pm Saturday and Sunday
Come for the $3.99 pick-your-own pumpkins and stay for the 8-acre corn maze at this dog-friendly delight.
WHISTLING WELL FARM, Hastings
9am – 6pm daily
Whistling Well Farm is so dog-friendly, it even has its own resident dog, Emmy. You can pick your own pumpkins and apples here, or dig your own fall mums. Also in the corgi-ous Country Store: pumpkin butter, jams, ciders, gourds, squash, honey, fall decorations, and ornamental corn. Free admission.
