My Matatabi Stick Face

Summer visits the local pet shop, and finds out all about matatabi sticks, and why cats love them so much.

You may not notice it at first because it almost blends in with the background. But if you look in the upper right hand corner (in the direction of where my eyes are looking), you’ll see what it is. A matatabi stick… and it is my new best friend!

Some of you know what matatabi sticks are, but for those of you who don’t, they are sticks from the silver vine plant, and most cats love them! Silver vine has a different intoxicant from catnip, and a cat that does not respond to catnip, may still enjoy silver vine and matatabi sticks.

Lucky me, I’m responsive to both catnip and silver vine.

Anyhow, let’s go back to the beginning here. My human and I were at our local pet shop getting some food for Boodie. We were the last customers of the day and the only ones in the store, so my human was trying to hurry me up. But I wanted to explore, and human schedules mean nothing to me.

There was a lot to check out! Such as these bags of catnip.

I was enjoying them so much that I completely forgot about my favorite Barnyard Buddies catnip toys!

My human wanted to get my attention away from the catnip bags, but in a nice way, not just by hauling me off them. She saw a small bucket of these matatabi sticks, so she grabbed one and offered it to me.

What can I say? I took the bait! And my human took it (and me) to the cash register.
