Romeo – Ragdoll of the Week

Romeo - Ragdoll of the Week

This story is about the beautiful cat you see in the photos here, Romeo, or as his Mommy and Daddy affectionately call him, Purr, King, Senor, Bop, Dout, or any combination of those words multiple times or in conjunction with each other. No matter what he’s called, he is the biggest blessing that has ever entered our lives.

Romeo - Ragdoll of the Week 2

I had grown up in a house with dogs, whereas my fiancé grew up in a house with cats. Soon after we started dating five years ago, his family had introduced me to just how great cats can be, and when we bought our first house nearly two years ago, we knew we needed a furry friend to make our house into a home. Not long after this, my brother-in-law and sister-in-law brought home a beautiful Ragdoll from Allstar Rags Cattery in North Carolina, and after seeing his disposition, we knew we needed a Ragdoll for ourselves. It wasn’t long before our deposit was sent and we were making the 11 hour drive down to North Carolina to pick up our son, who was born 2/22/18. His cat ‘uncle’ is named Leo and his cat ‘cousin’ is named Theo, so we decided to name him Romeo to match the ‘eo’ theme. We brought Romeo home on Mother’s Day of 2018 and our lives haven’t been the same since.

Romeo - Ragdoll of the Week 4

For the first few days we had Romeo home, we kept him confined in “his room” (our spare room…. and still his room!) for a few days to allow him to adjust, as Floppycats recommends. Romeo is extremely smart, and quickly understood the door that Mommy and Daddy would enter and exit through had another side that HAD to be explored! It wasn’t long before he had the run of the house. To this day, anytime a door is shut, he gets extremely upset and cries. He needs access to every room in the house, especially if it’s a room his humans are in. Romeo is a typical Ragdoll in the sense that he has an extreme case of FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out). He needs to be wherever his humans are at all times. If Mommy is in one room and Daddy is in another, he will position himself in the middle of both rooms. He is a constant companion.

Romeo - Ragdoll of the Week 6

Like all of our special companions, Romeo has a distinct personality and is clear about his likes and dislikes (we’re referencing you, closed doors!). Romeo loves to play a game we call ‘ice.’ We have a long hallway in our house, so we will throw an ice cube down the hallway, and Romeo will run after it. Once he gets it, he will wait patiently next to it for us to throw it back down the other end of the hall, and repeat, repeat, repeat! Whenever Romeo is happy or excited, he will quickly run to either his vertical or horizontal scratcher and scratch away!

Romeo - Ragdoll of the Week 7

Romeo loves to play with his BFFs lobster and fries (catnip toys) and goes crazy when he is offered some dried chicken for a treat. Romeo enjoys sleeping above his Mommy’s head on her pillow, on the top tier of his cat scratcher, behind the couch against the wall, or on the far end of the couch curled up in the pillows. Romeo seems to understand weekdays versus weekends – every weekend morning he jumps into bed with us and kneads on his blanket and purrs while we rub his face and back.

Romeo - Ragdoll of the Week 5

Romeo loves to keep Mommy and Daddy company while they eat dinner, and he will either jump onto the counter to sit with us or will go “spread eagle” (belly up) on the floor, which is a cheap shot because he knows we can’t resist looking at him and praising him when he is being silly like that. Romeo got his nickname Bop because he is so laid-back and is always bee-bopping around the house. If he isn’t doing any of the above activities, Romeo is likely being smothered with love and kisses by either his Mommy or Daddy (or both!). It’s the price you pay for being so good-looking!

Romeo - Ragdoll of the Week 3

Being that Romeo is the first animal my fiancé and I are parents to, it’s hard to put into words just how much he means to us. Romeo is so much the center of his Mommy and Daddy’s world that we have decided our wedding date will be his 2nd birthday. I told my fiancé I was writing this story and questioned if he wanted me to add anything from his point of view, and he said “Romeo is daddy’s best friend, the love of our lives, and we have a special daddy and son bond that no one could understand.” He summed our feelings up well, although mommy and son have a special bond too! 🙂 Every family could use a Romeo to love.
