Mews and Nips: Neural AI Network is Naming Cats, and The Results are Hilarious
The Morris Animal Refuge in Philadelphia teamed up with research scientist Janelle Shane, who trains neural networks, a type of machine learning algorithm, to name cats, and the results are hilarious. She originally trained a network by giving it 8,000 cat names to learn from, but the AI stumbled, giving out names like Hurler and Retchion. Shane revisited the challenge with an AI that had a lot more context and trained it up with a long list of cat names. This time around, it was (somewhat) more successful, coming up with names like Sparky Buttons, Tom Glitter, and Pompompur. For more about this project, visit CNET.com.
If you missed any of the stories featured on the Conscious Cat this week, here’s a recap: on Sunday, we celebrated Father’s Day, on Monday, we told you about the new Assisi Loop Air and Atom therapy pads, on Tuesday, we took a behind the scenes look at what goes into the making of Sleepypod carriers, on Wednesday, we shared stories of how the Brodie Fund helps cats with cancer, on Thursday, we told you how you can participate in a study about how cats and humans play, and on Friday, we reviewed The Feline CEO.
Today’s video of two kitties cuddling is so sweet – I find that watching it instantly relaxes me. Enjoy!
Have a great weekend!
