Review: Jackson Galaxy Butterfly Ball by Petmate

 

The Jackson Galaxy Butterfly Ball provides visual entertainment for your cat. The toy uses sensor-activated action to set the butterfly fluttering within the ball, which taps into your cat’s natural instincts to observe and track prey. The ball is weighted at the base so while it wobbles when your cats bat at it, it still stays upright.

Putting the Butterfly  Ball to the test

To insert the batteries, you’ll need a small Phillips head screwdriver. Turn the switch to “on,” and you’re set. The butterfly is almost eerily realistic in terms of how it flutters and moves, and it certainly got the girls’ attention right away.

It took them a little while to figure out that the butterfly would start moving again if they pawed at the ball once it stopped fluttering. Once they got the hang of it, they had so much fun with it!

Allegra was more strategic about her play, while Ruby is more of a “pounce and see what happens” girl.

Since your kitties won’t ever be able to actually catch the butterfly, to avoid frustration, I recommend following up a play session with the Butterfly Ball with some treats so your cats can experience the full “hunt, catch, kill and eat” sequence.
