Remembering on Memorial Day

Hi guys. And Happy Memorial Day for those of you in the U.S. of A.  Usually on Memorial Day all I can think about is barbecue because…y’know…it is the official start of barbecue season. But that’s not what Memorial Day is all about. I know…hard to believe, right?

Seriously, Memorial Day is a day we remember and honor the brave men and women that gave their lives protecting our country so we can be free. And it’s a day to remember loved ones who have left us…both human and those with fur.

So I’m putting my thoughts of barbecue aside, and remembering those Island Cats no longer with us.

First is Bogart.

Bogart

Now Bogart never really was a true Island Cat…meaning, he never lived here on the island. But he’s an honorary Island Cat…always in our hearts.

Then there’s Scooter…the original Island Cat.

Scooter, the Original Island Cat

When the mom and dad-guy moved here, Scooter was the cat that they had. I never met Scooter or Bogart but the mom says they were both pretty cool cats and I woulda been good friends with them.

And now…my buddy, Wally.

It’s been just over 3 months since he left us…and we’re still dealing with the loss. It’s just not the same around here without him…we all miss him so much.

So whatever you’re doing today to celebrate this holiday…having a picnic, going to the beach, hanging out with friends or just enjoying the day…take some time to honor and remember those who are no longer with us including the brave men and women who gave their lives for our country.

And you know what? It’s okay to celebrate with a little barbecue, too. After all, you can honor and remember while eating some barbecue, right? I’m sure Wally would like that.
